Watermelon on the pavement on my way home. Your rind cracked. Dark pink flesh squelched. Someone placed you gingerly on the floor. I stomped down. Sickly sweet and rotten.
Sticky seeds, magenta goop, chunks, scattered. You lie there With the leaves and cobblestones Trampled all over so callously. My shoes cling to the ground. I leave your Traces everywhere now. On a bright, sunny day, I would have devoured you. Your rotting corpse Would break open as I plunge my knife in and slice you up. Smaller pieces make it easier to digest. It's almost feral. Fingers sticky, lips dripping. You would seep into my floorboards. I'll be tempted to bend down and lick you up. Instead, I'll clean. And I'll toss your carcass in the trash. Watermelon, now in my bin. Perhaps, I think, You'll fare better, staying on the side of the road.
Hey, it’s Aly!
Saw a watermelon on the pavement. Challenged myself to write about it. I need to find inspiration outside of feeling like shit :)
Hope everyone’s been doing ok!
